MVC SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2003
Dear Friends,
It’s
been over a year
now since
I have written to
you and I wanted
to bring you up to
date with some changes
and improvements
to our services.
The growth of MVC
continues to be amazing
and I am continually
rewarded by the excellent
clients and patients
that I see through
your practices as
well as the interesting
variety of cases
you are giving me
the opportunity to
see.
As a scheduling matter, my two days at the center in Concord does mean that I am off the road during that time. However I am still available the remainder of the time for on-site clinic visits. Please call to discuss scheduling or availability.
New
Technologies
Up until now, we have been able to perform excellent bronchoscopies and bronchoalveolar lavages on the very small and larger patients. This new scope will be perfect for medium sized dogs. Also, a new ultra-slim gastroduodenoscope will allow for very complete upper and lower gastrointestinal exams on all size patients. Sure, I’m always a sucker for new toys, but these new devices I’m sure will absolutely be very beneficial to patients.
Operative Endoscopies
I want to list a few of the newer operative endoscopic procedures that we are doing more routinely both in mobile service and at the Referral Center in Concord. Not all of these procedures are able to be performed on all patients but with newer technologies and experience the patient range will be increasing. Please call to discuss cases for referral at any time.

The recent addition of some new equipment has continued to increase the range of offerings of MVC. In the past several months, we have added a new diode laser to the equipment in Concord. This diode, at a wavelength of 980nm, is ideal for both endoscopic and general surgical applications. This device, along with our other laser at 810nm, gives us a huge range of potential surgical and endoscopic applications and ensures that we will always have the right tool for the right job.
We have also invested in a new small diameter bronchoscope to ensure that we are able to adequately evaluate the lower airways of our medium sized patients.

Recently I presented two papers at the spring meeting of the Veterinary Surgical Laser Society meeting in Myrtle Beach. Presented were my preliminary evaluation of endoscopic laser resection of nasal neoplasia and transitional cell carcinoma. I’m not going to go into detail here, but suffice to say that there is great promise for these technologies in both of these locations. Let me know if you want to discuss cases for referral.
VISA/Mastercard
At the request of several clinics I am experimenting with the use of Visa/Mastercard for payment for MVC services. If you want to set up a credit card account with me, let me know and I’ll fax or send the requisite form.
Upcoming
Lectures
In September I will be giving a one day introduction to the use of the video otoendoscope system in Tampa, Florida. Information can be found at the web site of ESS, endoscopy.com. In November I will be doing another one day continuing education program in southern England for the regional BSAVA chapter along with my friend and colleague Philip Lhermette. If anyone would like more information about upcoming CE (not just those involving endoscopy) give me a call and I’ll try and help.
BEST
WISHES,
Dave
